Google Testing “Instant” Tag for AMP in Search Results

Google is testing a new way to let searchers know that AMP results shown are much faster than a typical web page. They have added an “Instant” tag next to the usual AMP logo for those results, instead of the usual AMP icon along with the word “AMP” next to it.

Jonathan Jones spotted the test in the mobile search results.

Here is what it looks like:

It is a lighter blue in color than the blue used for the search result title, so it does stand out as quite noticeable.

One of the problems with AMP is that many people don’t know what AMP means when they see it in the search results.  So this should help those people learn that AMP means fast, by using the AMP icon along with the word “Instant” in this test.

This appears to be a limited test, as I was unable to replicate it.
